Hulme School Spring Fair raises much-needed funds for Jolly Josh charity

Date published: 20 March 2023

A Spring Fair was staged at Oldham Hulme Grammar School as more funds were raised for the school's chosen charity for 2023, Jolly Josh.

During the event, students from across the school came together to host a cake sale, with crafts and games for everyone to participate in - all to raise money for Jolly Josh.

Based in Rochdale, Jolly Josh is a safe, accessible and inclusive centre for children and young people living with complex medical needs and physical disabilities.

The centre is equipped with specialist mobility play equipment, postural seating and beds, and a full hoist tracking system in every room so that every child can be included, whatever their diagnoses and needs.

It also features a purpose-built hydrotherapy pool offering hosted sessions, as well as life-guarded ‘Family Splash’ and ‘Baby Splash Together’ sessions.

Hulme Grammar School Director of External Relations, Claire Brownlie, said: “We’re delighted to be raising funds for Jolly Josh this Spring - their purpose and what they offer the local community is wonderful.

"Hulme has a long-standing tradition of raising funds for charities that carry out vital work within our community, and Jolly Josh is no different.

"The work they do to help families create happy memories together in an accessible, inclusive place is heartwarming and fantastic.

"It costs them approximately £300,000 a year to offer their services to families in the local community, doing so for free of charge.

"We know how important it is for children to have access to safe and inclusive spaces from a young age, so it’s incredibly humbling to be able to raise funds to contribute to these costs.

"The money raised from our Spring Fair and student’s efforts will help to ensure Jolly Josh can continue offering their remarkable facilities to the community.”

Visiting the school, Jolly Josh representative Lillie Winterbottom added: “It’s an honour to be supported by the pupils at Hulme Grammar and heartwarming to know that they are helping children with complex medical needs to make the most of every day at Jolly Josh.”
