GCSE celebrations continue following exceptional results at Blue Coat

Date published: 24 August 2023

There were lots of celebrations at Blue Coat school this morning, as pupils once again celebrated an exceptional set of examination results.

Over a third of all GCSE grades awarded this year were grade 7 or above.

85% of the year group achieved a grade 4 or above in English and Maths and over 60% of the cohort achieved the EBAcc qualification.

As well as success for the entire year group, there were some students who achieved incredible individual results.

Kathryn Richmond and Phillipa Knight were both awarded 10 grade 9’s; Jessica Perrin and Jacob Rigney both picked up eight grade 9’s and three grade 8’s and Alexandra Clark was awarded five grade 9’s and six grade 8’s.

Kathryn and Jacob will be continuing their studies at Blue Coat Sixth Form to pursue their dreams of entering the medical profession.

Both will be starting A Levels in Biology and Chemistry.

Kathryn has the ambition to one day study at New College Oxford, to give her the best start to her journey towards becoming a surgeon, whilst Jacob has his sights firmly set on the field of diagnostic oncology.

Both students have been enhancing their knowledge of the medical profession this summer by doing a work placement.

Kathryn has been gaining valuable experience in both ENT and Orthopaedic surgery, and Jacob has been doing volunteer work at the Royal Oldham hospital.

Headteacher Rob Higgins said: “Once again we are absolutely thrilled and delighted with the levels of success that our young people have achieved.

"They have worked incredibly hard for these results and it’s pleasing and reassuring to see that their hard work has been rewarded.

"You can’t forget and underestimate what significant disruption this cohort of students faced to their education – lockdown hit as they were halfway through Year 8 and much of their Year 9 was disrupted with having to repeatedly isolate.

"Key Stage 3 is the building block and foundation for future success and to achieve such amazing results despite these challenges shows just how hard they have worked and how well they have been supported by staff at the school and their families.

"Seeing students, their families and staff celebrating the results today has been fantastic.

"I would like to thank all the staff at the school and the families of all our young people for the care, reassurance, guidance and support that they have provided for them, which has enabled them to achieve such a wonderful set of examination results.

"We are incredibly proud of every single one of our students and wish them the best of luck for the future."
