Oldham ICP's first free family health and wellbeing event proves to be a big success

To mark National Fitness Day, NHS Oldham Integrated Care Partnership (ICP) teamed up with GPs from Oldham Central and Oldham Community Leisure to host their first free health and wellbeing event for local families.

Aimed at providing families across the locality with information and tips to inspire them to stay healthy mentally and physically, the day proved to be a big success.

Welcoming more than 200 people, including the Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Zahid Chauhan OBE, visitors got to visit over 30 stalls from organisations across Oldham.

Getting advice on everything from sexual health outreach and mental health services, to baby weighing and breast feeding support.

As well as getting the chance to have free health checks including blood pressure and diabetes.

This resulted in over 30 on the spot Hepatitis C tests, more than 100 blood pressure checks which have led to GP referrals, and 13 people interested in joining a patient participation group.

Staff also gave away 62 toothpaste packs, 25 nappies, 50 boxes of vitamins and 30 books.

If that wasn’t enough, students from Oldham College treated visitors to hand and nail treatments and families got to enjoy free day guest passes for the Oldham Leisure Centre and take part in free activities – including spin, body pump, zumba, swimming and line dancing.
