A social activity group in Oldham which supports lonely older people is appealing for volunteers to help run free tea parties.
The group, which is part of the charity Re-engage, meets once a month at the homes of hosts who provide cakes and sandwiches.
Alicia Marland, who runs it, said: “The tea parties are very friendly occasions with a lovely atmosphere and the older people really enjoy them.
"It gives them a chance to get out and socialise.
"Most of them are in their 80s, but we have one lady who is 98!”
The group usually has four or five older people attending and they play Bingo or do quizzes while enjoying the tea.
This year’s Christmas treat will be a trip to a Vintage Brass Band concert with carols in Springhead.
Alicia, who has been with the group for six years, added: “It would be good to start up a second group in Oldham as I’m sure there are many older people struggling with loneliness.”
