A scene from the quarry rescue drama
Twelve members of the Oldham Mountain Rescue Team were involved in a three-hour rescue operation after being contacted by Greater Manchester Police in response to reports a person had become cragfast in a disused quarry on Crompton Moor.
The rock face was very slippery, leaving a significant risk of falling off the crag and suffering a major injury.
On the team’s arrival it was established the individual had been stuck for about an hour and suffered some minor grazes.
The team assessed the best way to safely retrieve the individual and set up a rope system anchored to a team Land Rover on moorland above the quarry.
When all safety checks were completed a team member abseiled down to the cragfast individual, secured with a rescue strop, and slowly lowered them to the ground.
They were then assessed by the waiting paramedics before happily being given the okay to head home.
Twelve team members were involved for three hours.
