A trio of dedicated motor fanatics were praised by their community after staging their first-ever classic motor car show.
Despite a mixed bag of weather, more than 90 classic cars, assorted military vehicles and traction engines, plus motorcycles, paraded at Dawson’s Field on the A62 Huddersfield Road yesterday (Sunday).
After five guelling weeks, Phil Howard, Paul,Sykes and Geoffrey Fielding, the backbone team of the event, shared the hard-earned fruit of their labours which brought complimentary reviews from car and vehicle enthusiasts and visitors.
Said Phil: "After all the hard work done behind closed doors, Dawson's Field Scouthead being made ready by both Paul and Geoff was one of the best events in Saddleworth in 2025.
“We can't thank all our volunteers exhibitors and public enough - when a community comes together you can see the difference.
“Today has just shown what two small communities can do, and give everyone a great day.
"Thanks to the community group of Scouthead and Austerlands... once again you have shown how it's done.”
He added: "I don’t think I’ve ever shaken so many hands in my life!”
And fittingly, the car of the show award was won by Mason Coutts (above), a local lad who had lovingly rebuilt his Ford Fiesta.
Robert Cragg, chair of Scouthead and Austelands community, said: "A big thank you to exhibitors, sponsors, volunteers and of course our community for supporting our first car show today.
"It made all the hard work worthwhile.”
Local hero Frank Rothwell OBE exhibited his steam-driven Land Rover and a unique newly-built car.
You can listen to a report on the show on Oldham Community Radio 99.7fm/DAB/Device/Online today (Monday) at around 11.30am.
