Oldham Summer Beach set for Alexandra Park return

The Oldham Summer Beach brings all the fun of the seaside to Alexandra Park
A popular summer event is set to return to Oldham – bigger and better than ever before.
The Oldham Summer Beach brings all the fun of the seaside to the town’s Alexandra Park, with a specially created beach, lots of giant inflatables, and some children’s fairground rides and a packed programme of daily entertainment.
The beach opens on July 26 and runs right through to August 31, with food and a picnic area and even beach games to keep visitors occupied.
This year organisers have also added a host of new elements, including Colour Blast Party Days, fun for youngsters with Smilie and Doctor Doolally and performances from top tribute acts such as Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa and Amy Winehouse.
There’s also the opportunity for homegrown talent to show their skills, with the return of the popular Oldham’s Got Talent competition, after a gap last year.
Hosted by popular local actor and entertainer, Steve Norman, a regular on the cobbles of Coronation Street, the event will run heats on Sundays 3, 10, 17 and 24 August with the final on the 31 Aug, where the winner will receive £300, second place £100 and third place, £50.
Anyone wanting to take part needs to text their name, age and a brief description of their act to 07956 652335 and they will be sent a link to an application form.
Entry to the beach is just £1 for weekdays and £2 on Saturdays and Sundays, with the opportunity to buy special wristbands for anyone wanting to use the inflatables.
Anyone who buys a wristband – which costs £10.99 for a half day or £11.99 for a full day – will get free entry into the beach.
Other attractions include a monster assault course and – for the first time this year – a new jungle activity centre.
Although visitors can pay on the day, the advice is to book in advance as last year many of the sessions were sold out.
The beach opens at noon each day and families can enjoy the event right up until 7pm.
Kris Longshaw, who organises Oldham Summer Beach, can’t wait for it to return.
“We had a fantastic year last time round and we’ve upped our game again with some new elements as well as the familiar favourites,” he said.
“We know occupying kids during the summer holidays can be really challenging, so we’re delighted to be able to offer a really brilliant low cost option with something for everyone.”

“We’ve ensured that the beach is suitable for people of all ages, particularly for those aged between two and 12,” he said.
