Hulme Grammar School celebrates outstanding A Level results

Date published: 14 August 2025

Hard work, resilience and commitment - key values of Hulme Grammar School - were on show today as students collected their A Level results.

The remarkable achievements are a reflection of the school’s rigorous academic standards and its reputation for nurturing high-achieving, ambitious young people.

Over 60% of students achieved A* - B grades reinforcing Hulme’s position as one of the region’s leading selective independent schools - a school that welcomes those pupils with academic potential alongside a determination to achieve and a desire to be a part of a life-long community.

Staff and parents are incredibly proud of the fact that the diverse cohort, with students from all walks of life, is able to access the education that allows the majority to take up their preferred choice of university or apprenticeship.

With a significant number of students on bursary, including some affected by the conflict in Ukraine, and others by significant personal tragedy, staff would like to thank the benefactors of Hulme Grammar, whose generous support funds the School’s Bursary Foundation and helps to change the lives of the young people of Oldham.

Hulme Grammar is not an academic hothouse, and whilst one in five students achieved a full complement of A*/A across all their subjects, this was achieved alongside an impressive array of co-curricular activities including netball, football, orchestras, choirs, volunteering in the community and large-scale musical productions.

Top achievers this year include Farah, achieving 4 A* and Ameera achieving 3 A*.

Farah will be studying medicine at Cambridge and Ameera, one of our Deputy Head Students, Chemical Engineering at the University of Leicester.

Students achieving A*/A across all their subjects are: Aneeq, Dawood and Rohini - all leaving to study medicine - Adam, Hamza, Tom, Darcy - the Head Student and Candy.

A special mention to Candy who joined Hulme from China and achieved these results in her second language!

Exciting courses in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, Engineering, Law, Optometry, Foreign Languages and Physics await students and they will take up their places in prestigious universities around the country including Durham, Manchester, Liverpool and Exeter.

With the demand for Degree Apprenticeships soaring, Hulme prepares students thoroughly for this rigorous recruitment process, supported by an impressive alumni network and industry partnerships.

Congratulations to Will who will be doing an apprenticeship in Accounting and Finance with RPG Chartered Accountants in Manchester after being the successful candidate among a field of around 700 applicants.

Principal Kirsten Pankhurst praised the commitment and focus of this year’s leavers, saying: “Our students have truly earned every success today.

"These results reflect the determination, intellectual curiosity and resilience they’ve shown throughout their time at Hulme.

"We are a school that challenges bright young minds and supports them to achieve beyond expectations.

"Today’s results are a celebration not just of academic excellence, but of the personal growth and ambition that characterise a Hulme education.”

Hulme's class of 2025 will follow in the footsteps of past students who have progressed to prestigious universities such as Oxford and Cambridge, pursuing competitive courses including Medicine, Law, Engineering, and the Arts.

Among the school’s distinguished alumni is physicist, broadcaster and former Hulme student Professor Brian Cox, whose journey from Oldham to international scientific renown continues to inspire the next generation of Hulme learners.

Founded over 400 years ago, Hulme Grammar School is proud to nurture each student’s education journey from Pre-Prep and Prep School through to Sixth Form.

This continuous pathway ensures tailored academic challenge, strong pastoral care, and opportunities to develop confidence and leadership at every stage.

From the earliest years to A Level study, Hulme offers a supportive environment where high potential is recognised and ambition encouraged.

It is never too early, nor too late, to make the choice to send your child to Hulme Grammar.
