Chair of Governors 'so proud' of Oldham Sixth Form College A Level results

Oldham Sixth Form College once again celebrated outstanding A level and Vocational results.

Staff are delighted for all students and their exam results this summer because their achievements represent such a significant milestone in their education.

This summer’s results are the college’s strongest ever collection of grades by some distance.

The Sixth Form College is delighted that once more, the majority of courses have achieved 100% pass rate.

Year 13 high grades (A*-B) have increased by 7% this year compared to last, and 250 students have achieved triple A* and A grades equivalents. In total 1917 high grades have been awarded.

At 99% pass rate the college has exceeded the national pass rate by almost 2%.

Seven of OSFC's Oxbridge offer-holders have secured their places and 16 students from the Aspiring Medicine and Dentistry programme have already confirmed their progression, with more to follow.

Among this year’s many success stories are:

Sima Ahmed, from The Radclyffe School, has achieved a D* in T level Education and Early Years, a phenomenal achievement in this new qualification.

Waleed Fahad, who started his Pinnacle journey at Werneth Primary School, before progressing to The Hathershaw College and Oldham Sixth Form College, has secured 3 A* grades and will be studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Manchester.

James Walsh, from The Radclyffe School a recipient of one of our Diodes scholarship, is also taking a degree in Engineering at Cambridge University, after achieving 3 A* grades and an A in his A Levels.

James’s parents had nothing but praise for the college, saying: “It’s the best place he could have been… every staff member we have interacted with has been enthusiastic and engaged, we couldn’t have asked for any more [support].

"I don’t think any other private institution could have provided the level of support or teaching than what James has received here”.

Suzannah Reeves, Principal of the Sixth Form College, said: “As always we are delighted with the achievements of our students.

"We are proud to say that, in spite of COVID interruptions throughout the start of their secondary school experience in years 8 and 9, our students have done a fantastic job.

"I am immensely proud of the dedication of students and staff to give Oldham Sixth Form College such excellent results”.

In addition, the number of students who achieved triple A grades or an equivalent in their Year 12 external exams has continued to rise, with the majority of students studying 4 A level or diploma subjects in their first year.

These results provide students with fantastic evidence for university and apprenticeship applications and demonstrates how effective a broad programme of study which often includes humanities, arts and sports choices, can be.

This year the college was a runner up in the Arts and Culture Award from the Sixth Form Colleges Association, in recognition of innovative work with young people across Oldham and beyond, and staff were delighted that the Pinnacle Learning Trust (PLT) won Wellbeing Trust of the Year at the MAT Excellence Awards, in part recognising OSFC’s impactful commitment to wellbeing for young people and staff.

It follows in the wake of recent awards from Edurio that recognise PLT’s (and OSFC’s) exceptional efforts in creating environments in which staff are proud to work and teach.
