Valuable tips to be on offer at energy efficiency roadshow events

Date published: 11 September 2025

Tips on making homes warmer and the chance to pick up free light bulbs and gadgets to keep energy bills down are on offer at two events this month organised by First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO).

The housing association is continuing its Energy Efficiency Roadshows in Chadderton and Shaw to give its customers and local residents advice.

FCHO is refurbishing 645 homes in a multi-million investment across estates including AbbeyHills, Roundthorn, Shaw and Chadderton with a range of energy efficient retrofits over the next few years.

The roadshow will be in Chadderton on September 16 at the corner of Laburnum Avenue and Eustace Street and then in Shaw on the 25th at Crompton Cricket Club - both from 2.30pm to 6pm.

Visitors can look forward to practical energy-saving tips, free low-energy lightbulbs, radiator reflectors, and hygrometers - that measure humidity - as well as expert advice from FCHO’s refit contractors, Connolly.

The company will be on hand to explain the benefits of insulation, smart heating and triple-glazing, and answer questions about the improvements.

“These events are a great opportunity for our neighbourhoods and customers to learn more about the benefits of energy-saving measures and the work we are undertaking in hundreds of homes across Shaw and Chadderton,” said FCHO sustainability manager, Olivia Greenhalgh.

“Our goal is to ensure that all our customers live in warm, safe, and healthy homes and we hope they and other local residents will pop along for a chat while learning some useful tips.”
