Throstle Court residents become music icons for Andy's Man Club charity showpiece

Retirement Living residents in Oldham transformed themselves into music legends to support a cause close to their hearts.

Housing 21’s Throstle Court has created a special charity calendar in aid of Andy’s Man Club, the national men’s mental health organisation founded in memory of Andrew Roberts.

Residents donned costumes inspired by stars including Madonna, the Spice Girls, Freddie Mercury, Dolly Parton and Elton John.

A local photographer and make-up artist generously donated their time, helping produce a high-quality calendar that has already proved a hit.

Resident Sheila said “We all thought dressing up in fancy dress was a great idea.

"I got chosen as Madonna.

"Not only did we have lots of fun, but we have raised money for a good cause.”

Priced at £10 each, the first run of calendars has already sold 100 copies, with more copies expected to be printed due to the strong demand.

Residents, along with the local manager, talked about the residents’ fundraising efforts and the importance of men speaking openly about mental health.

Local Housing Manager Suzanne Delaney said: “I felt compelled to act after learning more about Andy’s Man Club’s origins, as a mother of sons, I want to help create a world where men feel able to talk about their struggles.”

The residents also hosted a community event attended by the Mayor of Oldham and a Luke from Andy’s Man Club, where the calendar will be formally unveiled.

Luke, Area Lead for Oldham, Rochdale and Tameside for Andy’s Man Club, said: “I just want to say a huge thank you to the residents.

"This money will go to existing clubs and support us in opening more clubs in the future.

"Funding allows us to keep these vital services running to continue to support men all over the country and prevent suicide.”

The team at Throstle Court hope their efforts not only raise vital funds, but also spark more conversations around men’s mental health.
