Touching back story adds to rescue team cheque presentation

There was added intimacy at a cheque presentation following a concert for the Oldham Mountain Rescue Team organised by Greenfield Methodist Church.

Because one of the church members attending the worthy cause was stretchered off Alderman's Hill on Remembrance Sunday by the team, due to a medical emergency, 25 years ago.

Councillor Helen Bishop, chair of Saddleworth Parish Council, received the £812 on behalf of the team, one of her chosen charities during her year of office.

And Rev Ken McNally, Methodist minister for Shaw and Saddleworth, and chaplain to the chair this year, said: “Happily, that member is still with us! Thank you OMRT!”

The cheque was presented by Rachael Gibbon, professional musician and teacher, who assembled a septet to perform at the concert, attended by 60 people.

Present from OMRT were Andy Taylor, Team Doctor, who gave an interesting talk in the break between the two halves of the septet's performance and Rebecca Fitton, the Vice-Chair. 

Comical entertainment was provided by David Hewett, a local solicitor and member of Greenfield MC who recited Stanley Holloway monologues.

Meanwhile, the Chairman's Civic Service will take place at Greenfield Methodist Church on Sunday, February 1 at 2pm.

All are welcome at this public act of worship to recognise Councillor Bishop's year of office.
