Golden delight for 'incredible' Angela and Catherine

Two long-serving members of staff at a local Oldham charity are being recognised after each reaching more than 25 years of service.

OPAL, which supports adults with learning disabilities and autistic people across the borough, says this is the longest service milestone any staff member has achieved in the organisation’s history.

Over the past 25 years, Angela Clarke and Catherine Rafferty have played a key role in supporting people to live fuller, more independent lives.

Both are qualified advocates and have worked alongside individuals in Oldham on a wide range of issues, including accessing services, having their voices heard and making informed choices about their lives.

Their work has included providing day-to-day support, building long-term relationships and being a consistent and trusted presence for individuals and families over many years.

Michelle Anderson, Chief Executive of the charity, said: “Reaching 25 years of service is an incredible achievement.

"It reflects not only dedication, but a genuine commitment to the people we support.

"Their knowledge, compassion and experience have made a real difference to so many lives and we’re incredibly grateful for everything they’ve contributed."

The charity says the milestone highlights the importance of experienced, committed staff in the social care sector and the positive impact long-term relationships and skilled advocacy can have for people with learning disabilities and autistic people.
