Police are appealing for information after a man who had been reported missing was found dead in a vehicle in Oldham.
Christopher Neary, 58, was discovered after emergency services were called to a suspected collision near Lees New Road on Monday evening.
Greater Manchester Police said officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Christopher Neary.
Emergency services were called at around 7.30pm on Monday 1 June 2026 to reports of a vehicle believed to have left the carriageway near the junction of Lees New Road and Abbey Hills Road in Oldham.
A man was found deceased inside the vehicle and was later identified as Mr Neary, who had been reported missing by his family the previous week.
His family have asked for privacy as they come to terms with their loss.
Police said enquiries are ongoing to establish exactly when the collision happened and what caused it.
Investigators are also seeking to understand Mr Neary’s movements in the days before he was found.
Officers are asking anyone with information, CCTV footage or dashcam recordings from the area to come forward. They are particularly interested in footage recorded between around 6.50pm on Thursday 28 May and the evening of Monday 1 June.
Detective Inspector Clare Harrison of Greater Manchester Police said: “Firstly, I want to extend my condolences to Christopher’s family and friends. This is a tragic outcome and I want to ensure that we provide them with the answers they deserve.
“We are working hard to establish the circumstances that led to his death, including his movements in the days preceding, and in which he was reported missing, as well as the exact cause of the collision.
“If anyone has any information they can share, I would urge them to do so. Even the smallest amount of detail could greatly benefit our investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Greater Manchester Police quoting log 3165 of 01/06/26.
