What Kati did next; Fitness in the running for 2009? I don’t think so

For all my soap box ranting I have to hold my hands up and admit that I have fallen for the New Year’s Resolution trap and am now on a diet.
I have even — and, yes, you are fully in your rights to shoot me down — invested in a pair of running shoes.
I have decided that not only is this the year to regain my pre-pregnancy body but I am also going to attempt to actually, really become fit.
Not just “quick, there’s the bus, run!” type fit but 10km run fit. So there I am going back on everything I said last week and, you see, the thing is, I don’t in anyway feel hypocritical about it, and I’ll tell you why. This is exactly what New Year’s Resolutions are about — setting your stall out.
For the past two weeks we, and clearly I mean I, have been eating and drinking more than one deserves and then suddenly, come the beginning of a new year, we feel like we should start again and take stock of our life.
Well I have taken stock and so for the next few, dare I say months but what I may mean is days, I shall attempt to become “fit.”
I have not joined a gym. No, I am much more noble than that. I shall pound the streets and I shall buy some lights for my bike. I shall not indulge in that “let’s swim and gym ideal,” when really I would be sitting in a sauna for two hours.
No, I shall be out there bearing my soul to the poor car drivers and pedestrians of the North.
However I will let you know how it’s going. I may even tell you my dress size and my weight.
I say may — I’ll have a think about that. Only because I know that in two weeks’ time, when the trainers haven’t yet been peeled out of their tissue paper, let alone been allowed out of the box, and the bike is still rusting in the shed, I shall lie to you all and say I have broken my leg or I have a rare disease forcing me to sit inside with the heating on and a box of chocolates by my side.
I’m warning you, I won’t go through with it. Please don’t be disappointed.
