Who makes it on your dinner party menu?

Who would you choose if you had to invite six guests to yours for a fabulous dinner party?
You don’t have to do the cooking, someone would come in and do that for you. In fact, people would come in and do the lot — you know, set the table, shake the cocktails, dish up the grub and clear up afterwards.
You wouldn’t have to worry about anything else other then the choice of your party guests.
They could be alive or dead, famous or not, who would you pick?
Stephen Fry? I do wonder how many dinner party lists Mr Fry would be on, I mean if this wasn’t just a game he could take this up as a full-time job and what a great job . . . or is it?
Thinking about it, imagine spending every single night of your life having to eat dinner with strangers who have only really invited you for your witty repartee.
I imagine you wouldn’t have much repartee left after a week or two, witty or otherwise. I digress.
Would you really choose Hitler? I mean atrocities aside, I’m not sure I would want someone that right wing at my do, so that rules Thatcher out but in all honesty she was never ruled in to be ruled out.
How about Nelson Mandela or Mother Theresa? People with a conscience and a kind heart.
How long is this dinner party anyway? By the time you’d introduced everyone and asked them to say something interesting about themselves it would be time to call a cab.
How about a musician? Jimi Hendrix? John Lennon? Crosby? Stills? Nash? Don’t forget Young.
Take your pick. Could you be cheeky and ask them to bring their guitars because, to be honest, you’re inviting them for their creative talents aren’t you?
I mean what would be the point of inviting them if they weren’t going to give us a quick once round the old Joanna before the cheese and biscuits?
Or, and I’m shooting from the hip here, if someone is going to come to my house, lay a beautiful table, cook and serve a beautiful meal, clear up afterwards and leave no trace of themselves, how about inviting the one I love.
To spend more than just a fleeting glance with one another, to spend the time catching up on our lives as they are now. Bliss.
