The Killers knock ’em dead

A HUNGRY crowd counted down from ten as the phenomenally popular Las Vegas four piece, The Killers, got ready to bound on to the Manchester stage.
And so the stage was set for almost two hours of foot stomping, hand clapping musical genius.
It is fair to say that global superstars like The Killers, with their canny ability to churn out a steady stream of musical crowd pleasers and three hugely successful albums under their belt, need no introduction.
But then there was no harm in warming up the capacity crowd, who packed the arena to prove their devotion to the Nevada rockers fronted by the ever flamboyant and boyishly handsome Brandon Flowers.
The fairly low key set of palm trees and a backdrop of studded lights brought the sun and the glitz of their native city to a chilly Manchester and the opening track, “Spaceman”, set the tone for an exhilarating night.
Flowers doesn’t say too much to his audience, but he skits, struts and jerks around the stage like he owns it — and his fans can’t get enough of it.
The audience were not deprived of a single crackerjack smash hit, as Flowers and co romped through the best of their three albums.
When a still energetic Flowers blasted through his final fanfare, he said to the crowd: “Let’s take it to the wonder level together”
And as the entire arena prepared to welcome one of the band’s most popular anthems, by loudly chanting “I’ve got soul, but I’m not a soldier” in happy unison, you can’t help thinking that all 20,000 of them were taken to the wonder level that night.
