Gig of the week: Constant Friction
Reporter: DAWN ECKERSLEY
Date published: 17 March 2009
Beats
Who? Gideon Conn, Oddness
Where? Castle, Union Street, Oldham
When? Saturday
Why? Gideon and band favour a style that is light years ahead of the usual indie band fusing trip, hip hop, folk, pop and rap. Think De La Soul meets Buck 65 with a touch of Timmy Mallett thrown in.
Oddness take influence from Tom Waits, Pink Floyd, Nirvana and Bob Marley to craft their dub, indie, jazz mix. When the bands have finished, expect to hear tunes from the likes of Vampire Weekend, Crystal Castles and The Doors.
Doors open at 10pm and close at 3am.
