NEW metallers Papa Roach are back and ready to rock with a brand new album.

“Metamorphosis” conjures a vicious, vibrant intensity that is both raw and relevant in a world of electro and indie.

The Californian quartet — singer Jacoby Shaddix, bassist Tobin Esperance, guitarist Jerry Horton and drummer Tony Palermo — burst on to the scene in 2000 with Top Five single “Last Resort”.

Jacoby said: “We bring it live. When you come to one of our shows it’s like the last tribal experience. Playing shows every night is what we’re built for.”

Catch Papa Roach at Manchester Academy on Thursday. Visit www.papa roach.com.

Bombay spices up the scene

BOMBAY Bicycle Club — remember the name because I have a feeling you’ll be hearing it a lot in the future.

The lads — Jack Steadman (vocals) Jamie MacColl (guitars) Suren De Saram (drums) and Ed Nash (bass) — are riding high on the back of the release of their debut album “I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose”. It doesn’t feel the need to shout, scream or bluster to be heard. Instead, its chiming chords and sighed melodies blaze proudly like flushed cheeks on a cold day.

The band won the 2006 Road to V competition after meeting as teenagers in North London. Catch them at Manchester’s Club Academy tomorrow. Visit www.myspace. com/bombaybicycleclub.

Don’t miss — Esser

Where? Manchester’s Deaf Institute

When? Next Tuesday

Why? He’s eclectic, exciting and Esser’s debut album “Braveface” is nothing short of amazing.

First single “Headlock” tells the tale of being in love with the wrong person and sets the scene for an album full of one-off hits. This is his first headline UK tour after supporting the Kaiser Chiefs.

Don’t miss — Polly

Where? Night and Day, Oldham Street, Manchester

When? Tonight

Why? Polly has a rare knack for making the disturbing sound delightful. She might sing about suicidal tendencies and supreme sadness but she does it with grace and such innocent vocals that can’t fail to leave you feeling seduced.

Paper Heroes tearing to fame

CHEEKY indie upstarts Paper Heroes are hitting the road to share their rapid fire rhythms and growling vocals with the world. The lads shot to fame when their song “Jenny Jones” was used in an episode of cult E4 show “Skins”. Catch them live at Manchester’s Music Box tonight.
