THE Aftershow is teaming up with a local charity for a night of unforgettable musical entertainment.
The monthly event at Manchester’s Moho Live has joined forces with Action in Vulnerable Communities to help raise funds for victims of conflict in Zimbabwe.
Friday’s show will see The Virgin Marys — Manchester’s answer to the full on rock outfits of the Seventies — bring their energetic set to the stage.
The trio team channel Led Zeppelin and Keith Moon to create their thumping style
The Whiskycats — who have previously sold out the Manchester Academy — favour a Vaudevillian approach to music and a theatrical performance style. Palmstruck formed at Lancaster University in 2003 before moving to Manchester to develop their expertly mixed soundscapes.
Carlis Star relocated from Cambridge to Manchester to complete their line up and tap into the city’s live scene.
The quintet have played at Leeds Festival and SXSW as well as getting airplay on Radio One and Xfm.
As well as bands, DJs and comedians there will also be stalls, visuals and body art throughout the night turning The Aftershow into Manchester’s version of Glastonbury.
In the second room revellers can see Sly Digs, Arthur Rigby and The Baskervilles, Tidy Hooker and The Chaddock Level.
Ones to watch: Delphic
Where? The Chapel, Manchester
When? Saturday
Why? The lads — Richard Boardman, Mathew Cocksedge and James Cook — have only been together a year but they’re already creating a big stir. They’ve already been featured in NME, Mixmag and Q and got airplay on Radio One and Xfm. They’ve been described as the missing link between Chemical Brothers and New Order, between Underworld and Muse. They make music on their laptops before figuring out how to play it live throwing guitars, bass and drums over the electronics to results their unique sound.

Don’t miss: Krazy Baldhead
Where? Area 51, Manchester
When? Thursday
Why? The 34-year-old only became a full time musician in 2002 and his first release “Bill’s Break” came two years later. Several EPs followed as Krazyhead gained cult status. He’s influenced by everyone from the Chemical Brothers to Bill Evans and A Tribe Called Quest to Joy Division. The former jazz musician often plays live from behind his turn tables and his sets are never prepared - he reacts according to the mood of the audience. Debut album The B-Suite was released earlier this year to huge critical acclaim.

Gig of the week
Where? Manchester Academy
When? Sunday
Why? We’ve been waiting for the Manchester trio’s follow up to “Some Cities” for the past four years. “Kingdom of Rust”, Dove’s fourth album, is a masterpiece packed with everything we’ve come to know and love about the lads.
The boys tucked themselves away in a Cheshire farmhouse for 18 months to record their latest effort and NME have already declared “Kingdom of Rust” one of the most important albums of the year.
The last Doves tour was in 2005 and there have only been a handful of shows since, meaning Jimi, Andy and Jez are raring to go.
