THERE’S no disputing the gig of the week — Oasis are back in town.

Manchester’s favourite indie band will pack out Heaton Park this week on the first stop of their biggest-ever UK tour.

Noel, Liam and co are performing on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

It is also a massive showcase for Oldham band Twisted Wheel, who join Kasabian and The Enemy as the support acts.

From the moment they formed in 1991 the Gallagher brothers were destined for stardom thanks to instant anthems such as “Live Forever”, “Cigarettes and Alcohol” and “‘Some Might Say”. “Be Here Now”, released in 1997, was the fastest selling album in UK chart history and the band claimed the top three places in a poll to find the best-ever UK song.

Over the years Oasis have been well known for battling fellow Britpoppers Blur, falling out with each other and dating a string of famous females.

But the quality of their tracks always shines through.

A hotline has been set up by promoters SJM Concerts and Manchester City Council for gig-goers and residents and will be open from 8am-1am on the days of the concerts. Call 0161-954 9003 to find out more.

Park and Ride facilities are available, with shuttle buses to and from the city centre. Extra policing and stewarding have also been arranged.

Call 0161-205 2000 for Metrolink information and 07500-452242 for traffic updates.
