CHART topping artists Lady Gaga and N-Dubz will stage a free concert for hard-working local teenagers.
Thousands of youngsters will get the chance to see their idols at the Manchester Apollo after earning tickets through volunteer work.
You can’t buy tickets for Monday’s gig you have to earn one by doing four hours community work.
Music-led volunteer programme Orange Rockcorps, which is now in its second year, is also being run in London and Paris. Young volunteers in Manchester transformed Hulme Community Garden Centre by painting murals, planting vegetables and building pathways.
Research conducted by Orange RockCorps on 600 Manchester youngsters revealed that over 40 per cent of 16-24 year olds feel that the downturn has given them a better sense of perspective on the issues that really matter with a more than a fifth saying that the recession has actually inspired them to make more of a difference in their community.
Stephen Greene, RockCorps co-founder and CEO said: “We are excited to be back bigger than before with Orange RockCorps. Lady Gaga is a phenomenal artist and rare talent – we are thrilled that she is performing for 3000 volunteers in Manchester. Together with N-Dubz and some surprises yet to come, the Manchester Apollo will rock on July 13th celebrating the work of the volunteers. Its’ going to be a party this summer but a party that benefits the community.”
