“Winter Wonderland” Halle Orchestra, Bridgewater Hall, Manchester.
A packed programme of festive delights were justified by conductor John Wilson and the wonderful Clare Teal provided the vocals for no fewer than eight songs.
The Skipton lass turned her back on a music career to sell advertising by telephone when she was 23. Thank goodness she had a change of heart.
She brought to life a flurry of festive favourites. Her “White Christmas” left no doubt as to why it went on to gain the 50-year record of being the biggest-selling single of all time.
The Halle orchestra, as usual, hit all the right notes with a polished, first-class performance under the baton of the ever-popular and likeable Wilson.
There is still plenty of chance to catch the Halle in festive mode, with a repeat of the “Winter Wonderland” concert tonight and carol concerts both at the weekend and next Tuesday.
