GLASSJAW
Manchester Academy, Sunday
The post-hardcore New York quartet formed in 1993 when vocalist Daryl Palumbo met guitarist Justin Beck and picked the name from a list because it sounded “sick”.
Palumbo and Beck were both in other bands and saw Glassjaw as a sideline in the early days. Debut EP “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” was released in 1997 before their first album “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence” came three years later with the specific goal of destroying the nu-metal style adopted by Limp Bizkit and Korn. The album set out Glassjaw’s stall as a force to be reckoned with. Follow up “Worship and Tribute” was released in 2002 and saw the band leave Roadrunner Records and sign to Warner Bros. The second album saw Glassjaw showcase a more melodic and mature sound that even touched on jazz and ambient influences.
While the current members - Daryl, Justin, Durijah Lang and Manuel Carrero - are all working on other projects they have stated that the future is looking rosy for Glassjaw.
