Decks master spins the wall

REVAMPED Manchester music venue Band on the Wall will welcome legendary performer Nitin Sawhney for a 10-day DJ residency.
The 45-year-old musician, producer and composer (pictured) fuses Asian influences with jazz and electronica.
Sawhney is also a patron of numerous film festivals, venues and educational institutions.
As a child he studied piano, classical and flamenco guitar, sitar and tabla.
He has performed as part of The James Taylor Quartet, The Jazztones and Tihai Trio as well as releasing eight albums as a solo artist.
When he moved to London, Sawhney met Sanjeev Bhaskar with whom he created the comedy team The Secret Asians which secured a show on BBC Radio, eventually growing into the award-winning TV sketch show “Goodness Gracious Me”.
Over the years, Sawhney has remixed music for a variety of artists including Sting, Jeff Beck, Julian Lloyd Webber and Sir Paul McCartney.
The Aftershock International Music Project will culminate in a special one-off live showcase which will also feature DJs Marseilles and Genova.
