Terrific Delphic
MANCHESTER dance trio Delphic will return to their roots with a homecoming show at The Islington Mill on Friday. The lads, Richard Boardman, Matt Cocksedge and James Cook, were runners up for the Brit’s Critics Choice Award and came third in the BBC Sound of 2010 Poll.
Their debut album “Acolyte” was released earlier this month and the band can count Jools Holland and Zane Lowe as fans. Q Magazine has described Delphic as “a New Order for the 21st century” while NME has tipped them as “the band most likely to massive by next year”.
Last year, Delphic hit the festival circuit with stints at T in the Park, Reading and Leeds, Creamfields and Bestival.
Label launch
A BRAND new Manchester record label will host a lavish launch party complete with live performances from all its artists.
Modern English will take over the Northern Quarter’s Cord Bar on Wednesday, February 3, from 7pm.
John Robb will be the MC and there will also be an exhibition from local artist Neil Duerden.
Artists performing on the night include Manchester rock quintet 1913, Mauritius-born dancer/singer/songwriter/comedian Thallie Biog, singer Michael Kerr and Londoners Call Me Animal.
Loner Lou
AFTER enjoying huge success with his band Dinosaur Jr, Lou Barlow is going it alone.
The singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist also founded The Folk Implosion and Sebadoh and is credited with helping to pioneer lo-fi rock in the 80s and 90s.
The 43-year-old from Ohio will cover a host of his best loved tracks at Manchester’s Deaf Institute on Sunday.
The solo tour comes after live shows with Dinosaur Jr and the reissue of several Sebadoh albums.
Dinosaur Jr was formed in the 80s but Barlow and bandmate J Mascis clashed constantly over the group’s direction.
