BEATS: THEIR live shows are said to be a riot of colour and flavour so Manchester has got high hopes for Cobra Starship’s city centre gig.
The band, Gabe Saporta, Ryland Blackinton, Alex Suarez, Nate Novarro and Victoria Asher, will play Manchester’s Academy 2 on Friday. Recent single “Good Girls Go Bad” featured guest vocals from Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester and sold 1.6 million copies worldwide.
Debut album “While the City Sleeps, We Rule the Streets” in 2006 was followed by “Viva la Cobra” in 2007 and “Hot Mess” last year. The band headlined the Really Really Ridiculously Good Looking Tour with guests Metro Station, The Cab, and We The Kings in 2006 and played on the Warped Tour as well as the Sassy Back tour with Forever the Sickest Kids, Hit the Lights, and Sing it Loud in 2008.
Extensive touring around the US followed in 2009 as well as a guest spot on the Warped Tour 2009.
At the 2009 Latin American MTV Awards, Cibra Starship beat Shakira and Nelly Furtado to the Best Performance gong.
Fangs for the tunes
AMERICAN indie rockers Vampire Weekend were around long before Robert Pattinson and co burst on to the big screen.
The lads, Ezra Koenig, Rostam Batmanglij, Chris Tomson and Chris Baio, got together in 2006 after meeting at Columbia University. The band’s debut self-titled album came 42nd in NME’s ‘100 Greatest Albums of the Decade’ list. Follow up “Contra” was released last month and the band will play tracks from both albums when they hit the Manchester Apollo on Monday.
AFTER months of hard work to get himself on the musical radar, Devon singer songwriter Cosmo Jarvis has finally arrived. He only released his debut album “Hum As You Hitch” last November but he’s already supported Gabriella Cilmi, Reverend and the Makers, Muse, Gym Class Heroes, Panic At The Disco and The Holloways.
You can catch Cosmo live when he supports Sunshine Underground at the Manchester Ritz on Friday.
