Liam leads

BEATS: Liam Gallagher has beaten stars such as Bono, Freddie Mercury and John Lennon to be named the greatest frontman of all time.

The cocky former Oasis star, who has never been shy to brag about his brilliance, tops a list of greats compiled from thousands of readers of Q magazine.

In an interview with Q, Liam said he was on a par with Elvis Presley. "There is Elvis and me. I couldn't say which of the two is best," he said.


Drumming up support

MELODIC indie quartet The Drums will fill the support slot for Florence and The Machine this summer.

But before they take to the road with her, the band — Jonathan Pierce (vocals), Jacob Graham (guitar), Adam Kessler (guitar) and Connor Hanwick (drums) — are staging their own headline UK tour.

As well as playing live at Manchester’s Deaf Institute tonight, the band will meet and greet fans at HMV in the Arndale from 1pm.



OLDHAM indie night Babysub is going from strength to strength as local clubbers lap up the live performances.

Taking to the stage on Thursday at Jackson’s Pit will be The Valentyns, Massive Dynamic and Cosmic Daisys.

There will also be a stint from female DJ Miss Vanessa The Aggressor and entry is £3.

Revellers can see The Crash Mats and Distrakted at Whittles, in King Street, the Thursday after. Entry is free and the fun starts at 8pm.

CHICAGO alt rockers Madina Lake are getting set to storm Manchester’s alternative scene.
The quartet — Nathan Leone (vocals), Mateo Camargo (guitar), Matthew Leone (bass) and Dan Torelli (drums) — will play at Manchester’s Academy 2 tonight.

The band won Best International Newcomer at the 2007 Kerrang Awards.

New album “Attics to Eden” looks set to propel the group to new heights as they sign up for a string of summer festivals as well as releasing EP “The Dresden Codex”.


WE Have Band are about to embark on a full year of live shows across the world after signing to France’s biggest independent record label.

Last summer’s run of high energy, much praised live shows at the Glastonbury, Latitude, Great Escape and Secret Garden festivals served to prove why people are getting so excited about the trio.
