BEATS: Don’t miss The King Blues, Monday, Manchester Academy
The quartet — Itch Fox, Louis Bennett, Jamie Jazz and Zebedee Jones — are in the midst of their biggest headline tour to date after scoring their biggest hit to date with “Save The World, Get The Girl”. The lads are credited with fusing ska and acoustic folk to create a brand new breed of music.
The King Blues are known to be overtly political. Itch writes a column for Last Hours magazine which focuses on resistance politics and protest and several songs on the band’s debut album “Under the Fog” are overtly political.
Up and coming: Casual Riot, Friday, Castle, Oldham
The lads — Matt Fryers (vocals) Trevor Curley (guitar) Dan Taylor (bass) and Aidan Smyth (22) — got together in 2008 with the aim of making good old-fashioned guitar music with an indie rock slant. Their first demo grabbed the attention of local radio stations and led to gigs all over the North-West and eventually a support slot with Neville Staple of The Specials.
