BEATS:
AFTER a cracking start to their career it all went a bit quiet in the Scouting For Girls camp.
They burst on to the indie pop scene in 2007 with hits such as “Elvis Ain’t Dead”, “She’s So Lovely” and “Heartbeat”.
Then the trio — Roy Stride, Greg Churchouse and Peter Ellard — slipped into the background before storming back to the top of the charts with “This Ain’t A Love Song” and new album “Everybody Wants To Be On TV” last month.
The band are now heading out on tour and will stop off at the Manchester Apollo on Friday.
Roy said: “Having spent the past year locked in the studio, we cannot wait to get out there and do what we do best. We are so excited about this tour — It should be our greatest yet.
“We’ve been practising hard since Christmas and have drafted in a new musician to create an even bigger sound live. We think the new songs sound immense and of course we’ll play plenty of the old favourites, with a few surprises too.”
The name Scouting for Girls is a play on words of the “Scouting for Boys” handbook first published in 1908, which provides boys instructions on good citizenship.
Similarly, the Scouting for Girls fan club is known as the “Wolfcubs” and is based on the Dennis the Menace fan club.
The lads were nominated for three BRIT Awards last year — British Breakthrough Act, British Live Act and Best British Single for “Heartbeat”.
They were also nominated in the Best New Act category in the MTV Europe Music Awards 2008.
