BEATS: INGRID Michaelson truly did her bit for girl power when she became history’s most successful unsigned artist.
The 30-year-old, who will play at Manchester’s Deaf Institute on Thursday, burst on to the scene in 2007 when her album “Girls and Boys” sold 400,000 copies on her own label Cabin 24 Records.
The album’s success was prompted by the hit single “The Way I Am” which was featured in a major ad campaign and “Keep Breathing” which was used during the 2007 season finale of “Grey’s Anatomy” prompting Michaelson and her lyrics to become Google’s two most popular searches.
Since breaking into mainstream consciousness, Michaelson’s ascent has continued unabated and she is hoping to emulate her Stateside success in the UK. She took the first step by writing the Cheryl Cole smash “Parachute”.
