Along with The Offspring and Rancid, the trio — Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool — are credited with reviving punk music.
Their frenzied energy and theatrical flourishes propelled them to the top of their game.
Tracks such as “Basket Case”, “American Idiot” and “Wake Me Up When September Ends” have delighted fans across the world since they got together in 1987.
Debut album “Dookie”, released in 1994, sold 15 million copies worldwide and signalled the start of a hugely successful career.
The lads have also won four Grammy Awards for Best Alternative Album (“Dookie”), Best Rock Album (“American Idiot” and “21st Century Breakdown”) and Record of the Year (“Boulevard of Broken Dreams”).
Joan Jett and The Blackhearts will fill the support slot tomorrow.
Joan has had eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles, including classics “Bad Reputation,” “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” and “I Hate Myself For Loving You”.
She was one of only two women named in Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 100 greatest guitar players of all time. Since co-founding pioneering all-girl punk quintet Runaways, at just 15, Joan’s determination and drive have kept her in the public eye.
