We’re on to a loser ...and we love it

WHAT KATI DID NEXT:

At the time of writing, we, I say we, but I really mean 11 good English men, have just drawn 1-1 with the good ol’ US of A.

Incredibly disappointing on many levels, I’m sure you would agree.

Firstly, the poor numpty who let the ball through his hands in a kind of me-and-my-boy-in-the-back-garden-type way.

Secondly, the fact that we appear to have picked up a few injuries, the replacement for Mr Ferdinand could be out for the whole worldy cuppy thingy.

Thirdly, and let’s be honest most disappointingly of all, is now we can see with our own eyes how completely rubbish England are.

I would bet hard cash that we are the only country in the world that believes ourselves to have the best football team in the world and be continuously shocked when they lose.

I mean America? Surely we can beat America. And if we can’t, then we’re not going to beat the likes of Spain, are we?

As I said to all the boys crowded around our television on Saturday, supporting England is a bit like watching Manchester City.

I can no longer spare the time to head off on a Saturday to see the mighty Blues play but I did in the times of Alan Ball . . . during that period, City were rubbish.

I clearly remember the crowd screaming obscenities at the defence as they passed the ball back to the goalkeeper, who more often than not, would allow the ball to trickle back through his fingers — Rob Green-style.

When Mr Ball died, I remember a friend saying to me: “City should lose on Saturday in his honour. It’s what Alan would have wanted.”

In many ways, that’s what England should do.

If we really went all the way, what would happen to the nation? We’d be so confused.

We love to be losers, we thrive on being the underdog. That’s why City fans are some of the most loyal in the country.

I mean you’d have to be, to watch them lose so often.

England fans are made of the same stuff. Meat pie, sausage roll, come on England . . . keep on losing, we love it.
