BEATS:

ORIGINAL girl power trio Salt n Pepa have reformed to play their first show in 15 years.

Salt (Cheryl Wray), Pepa (Sandra Denton) and DJ Spinderella will appear at the SW4 festival in London on August 29.

The New York crew — famous for hits such as “Push It”, “Whatta Man” and “Let’s Talk About Sex” — paved the way for feisty femmes such as The Spice Girls, Pink and Beyonce.

They sold 15 million albums and won a Grammy Award before their bitter split in 2002.

Ready to fly high

LEEDS rockers Sky Larkin are finally about to hit the big time after five years plying their trade.

The trio — Katie Harkin (vocals, guitar), Doug Adams (bass) and Nestor Matthews (drums) — released their new album, “Kaleide”, earlier this year.

When they first got together in 2005, the group released two singles on Leeds-based label Dance To The Radio which led to them securing a stage spot at Leeds Festival in 2007.

Sky Larkin signed to major record label Wichita in 2008 and released their debut single “Fossil, I” later that year, followed by debut album, “The Golden Spike” in 2009.

As their star started to rise, the trio supported The Cribs on tour and appeared at the famed South by Southwest Festival in Texas.

Catch them live while they’re still playing small venues at Manchester’s Night and Day on Monday.

Living up to the claim?

WHEN a band states a desire to create mysterious, soul cleansing, heart breaking, life affirming music it’s fair to say that the end result should be interesting.

The Steals made this claim before they made their second album “Static Kingdom”, which follows 2006 release “Floodlights”.

The album was produced in both Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire, and a beachside studio in San Francisco.

The band will launch their new album at Manchester’s Ruby Lounge on Thursday so you can decide for yourself.

Hollywood highs
CHART topper Jodie Connor is living it up in Hollywood after signing a top record deal.

The singer, originally from Scouthead, hit the number one spot when she featured on Roll Deep’s track “Good Times” in May. She also features on Tinchy Stryder’s new single “In My System”.

Jodie has recently signed an album deal with Polydor and is currently writing songs with Rock Nation who have penned tracks for Beyonce, Rihanna, P Diddy and Usher.

Her debut solo single is set for release in October and her album should follow early next year.
