Muse in Lancs gig
ELECTRO-rock pioneers Muse play Lancashire County Cricket Club on Saturday.
The chart-topping band, whose latest album “The Resistance” reached number one in 21 countries around the world, were named Best Act In The World Today by Q Magazine.
IF it’s glorious upbeat pop you’re after, Icelandic eccentric Jonsi is your man. The Sigur Ros frontman has gone solo with new album “Go”. Jonsi, who sings in Icelandic and English, will appear at the Manchester Academy on Monday.
LA quartet The Like strive to find a balance between retro sounds and modern lyrics. The girls first came into existence in 2006 when they signed to Geffen Records and released “Are You Thinking What I’m Thinking?”
Support slots with Muse and Kings of Leon followed and The Like — who have been described as a cross between Nancy Sinatra and Girls Aloud — were soon winning fans of their own.
They will play Manchester’s Ruby Lounge on Friday following their appearance at the Reading and Leeds Festivals.
LOOK out for Grimsby trio Orphan Boy, who play Manchester’s Club Academy on Saturday. They’re riding high on the release of “Passion, Pain and Loyalty” and their unique brand of punk became known as Two-Chord Council Pop. Their army of fans has really started to swell.
NEW clubnight Funf (the German word for “five”) launches on Saturday at the Roadhouse in Newton Street, Manchester. The event is based on the concept of five bands for a fiver.
