POP NEWS:
DAGENHAM rapper Devlin is fast becoming a famous face on the UK grime scene.
The 21-year-old’s debut album Bud, Sweat and Beers, released last year, went down a storm with fans and critics alike and has sold in excess of 60,000 copies. He’s also had more than 18 million views on YouTube.
He’s been described as “conceptual, clever and conscious ”with “dazzling verbal dexterity” as well as being dubbed the Essex Eminem.
Music mag Dazed and Confused say Devlin is ‘one of the few MC’s daring to say something different’.
The music thing almost didn’t happen as Devlin used to play for Sunday League side Senrab FC, which produced John Terry and Ledley King.
But his footballing career was short lived and he’ll play Manchester’s Club Academy on Thursday.
Master of the mix
IF your musical tastes veer towards the “something a bit different” category, master mixologist Jaguar Skills could be right up your street.
The award-winning DJ brings his Revenge of the Ninja Tour to Manchester’s Club Academy on Saturday. Jaguar’s skills have certainly been in demand in recent months with Damon Albarn and Devlin requesting he work his magic on their tracks.
He shot to fame in 2002 with his collection of well-received mixtapes and now has a regular slot on Trevor Nelson’s Radio One show. Over the years Jaguar has become famous for performing in a full ninja costume including a mask so that only his eyes are on show. Only a select group of people know his real identity.
Run rule over Derulo
HE’S famous for chirping his own name at the start of every song but there’s more to Jason Derulo than meets the eye.
He’s sold more than 12 million singles around the world and topped the charts with tracks such as What If, In My Head and Ridin Solo.
His self-titled debut album has gone platinum and he’ll be strutting his stuff at the Manchester Apollo on Friday.
