The Halle Orchestra, Bridgewater Hall, Manchester.

The Halle and a fabulous team of hand-picked vocalists brought the stage to life with a selection of favourites from the maestro of musicals, Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Saturday’s latest offering in the Halle’s pops season was a touch of inspiration with sheer talent exuding from every corner of the stage.

Conductor Nick Davies brought together the fabulous Halle with four accomplished names from the musicals to bring hit after hit from shows ranging from Phantom of the Opera and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to Cats and Evita.

All four vocalists, Robyn North, Jacqui Scott, Tim Rogers and David Shannon gave wonderful performances, in character of the parts they were singing, and I would be hardpressed to pick out a favourite among them.

That said, former Chethams School of Music pupil, Jacqui gave showstopping renditions of Memory from Cats and Don’t Cry For Mr Argentina from Evita.

Quick costume changes brought a stunning selection of dresses from the girls, and Robyn treated us to a superb selection from Phantom as Christine, who she has played on stage.

The jaunty Tim pulled a great Mr Mistoffelees out of the bag, and David saved a spine-tingling performance of The Music Of The Night from the tortured Phantom until the end, when you could have heard a pin drop, and brought the audience to its feet in appreciation of a splendid evening.
