Faraday can hit the big time

“IN 10 years time? I’m not going to lie, filling Wembley Stadium is a dream and as unrealistic as it sounds I can keep the hope that one day it will happen.

That’s the view of Martin Minshall, or Faraday, as he is known to fans.

“I want to make an impact on music,” he added.

Strong words for a 17-year-old just embarking on the first step of a notoriously difficult ladder to pop superstardom.

Yet the headstrong, Oldham-born lad has already got a head start over most his age.

The singer-songwriter has just released an EP entitled Perspectiv, recorded from the comfort of his own bedroom.

He tackled keyboard, guitar and bass as well as laying down vocals on his laptop, taking inspiration from Coldplay, Radiohead and the Manic Street Preachers.

The plucky former St Augustine’s pupil is now hoping to turn his humble beginnings into a story of success.

“It was quite hard recording it myself, tucked away in my room at 11 at night, using the laptop and my own mics.

“It’s difficult to get an idea about how it is going to sound as a whole project,” he admits.

“But it’s really exciting. Making progress and learning about the music industry along the way and becoming an artist is genuinely exciting.”

His five-track EP includes Visions — a ditty about political correctness gone mad masquerading as a love song.

A proud moment for Martin is also Miracle, his take on unrest in the Middle East, taking lyrical inspiration from George Orwell.

Fresh from a stellar show at the Oldham Carnival on Sunday, he now hopes to start booking bigger concerts and perform across the country after finishing his full-time music course at Manchester College.

Taking his Faraday name from a street in Manchester, he has already staged a knock-out gig at the Academy 3, in the city that spawned his musical hero Noel Gallagher.

He said: “He’s my main influence, the first songs I learned on the guitar were all Oasis songs when I was 11-years-old.

“I think that comes through in my songs.

“Yes, the industry is tough to break into but I’m determined to make an impact.

“It helps that I’ve got a really supportive family and friends behind me who keep me going.”
