Me and My Girl, Dukinfield AODS, George Lawton Hall, Mossley
COR blimey Guvnor, Dukinfield Operatics have put on a belter to warm the cockles on a cold evening.

Popular musical Me and My Girl tells the timeless tale of unrefined cockney costermonger Bill Snibson, who inherits a title but is told to dump his “unsuitable” girlfriend Sally Smith if he wants to become Earl.

Full use of the funny rags to riches story and foot-tapping Noel Gay tunes — including classics The Lambeth Walk and The Sun has got His Hat On — are made to create a hilarious and joyous show.

There wasn’t a wrong note from the orchestra and the cast were all in fine voice. As Bill, Michael Jones-McCaw is a likeable cheeky chappy with great comic timing, while Laura Bryant, as Sally, has a superb voice and the aristocratic characters are all performed with gusto.

The authentic costumes, brilliant set — complete with ghostly portraits, statues and clever scenery, with the actors able to perform around the orchestra — all add to the production.

A singing and dancing triumph, this ladette to lady tale is a class act.

The show runs until Saturday. Tickets from 330 2944.
