Unsigned Moz gives glimpse of new tracks

“CONGRATULATIONS on surviving the Queen’s Jubilee. When will we be rid of that family?”
Subtlety has never been a strong point for Manchester miserablist Morrissey and he’s never been afraid to let fans and media alike know exactly what’s on his mind, especially when it comes to the Royals.
On the whole, the former Smiths frontman shunned his best-known tunes to deliver a set-list crammed with rarely-performed tracks such as “You’re the One For Me Fatty”, “Ouija Board” and “Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me”.
But classic hits “How Soon Is Now”, “Everyday Is Like Sunday” and “I’m Throwing My Arms Around Paris” kept the non-diehard members of the sold-out arena happy.
The passionate vegetarian screened haunting images of lambs and calves being led to the slaughter throughout his stunning rendition of “Meat Is Murder” and Moz’s simply beautiful performance of “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want” brought a tear to the eye.
While the 53-year-old is always quick to remind us of his Salford roots, it seems the feeling is not always reciprocated.
He sarcastically told the 18,000-strong crowd, “I was given the key to the City in Tel Aviv. The city of Manchester has offered me nothing.”
Chaos ensued when Moz ripped off his frilly black shirt and threw it into the crowd, the garment ending up in dozens of pieces as desperate fans clamoured for a personal piece of their idol.
The last two times I’ve attempted to see Morrissey have ended in disaster — one cancelled, one walk-off — but there were no disasters on Saturday night.
My only complaint was a 10.10pm finish - with just one song - “Still Ill”, as an encore.
Moz is not currently signed to a record label so his new material will remain unreleased for the time being. Saturday’s concert was the singer’s only UK show this year.
