Halle Orchestra Christmas concert
FESTIVE hats, reindeer horns, glitter and sparkle revealed a lighter side of the Halle Orchestra as it partnered soprano Elin Manahan Thomas in a Christmas cracker of a concert.
The concert began with the stately Polonaise from Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera “Christmas Eve”.
The evening offered a true mixed bag, with pieces plucked from operas and ballets, blockbuster films and carols.
Under the baton of Roderick Dunk, the Halle romped through the programme, providing a platform for Thomas, who had battled through illness and a long drive from Brighton.
We all joined in with “The Twelve Days of Christmas” and “White Christmas”.
A particular favourite was “The Little Drummer Boy” , superbly sung and played.
