THE Halle paid tribute to Hollywood legend Gene Kelly on Saturday.
Under the baton of Larry Blank and with vocalists Louise Dearman, Daniel Crossley and Matthew Ford, the concert started and finished with Kelly’s signature tune, “Singin’ In The Rain”, and in-between was packed with songs from his movie musicals, from S’Wonderful” from “An American in Paris”, “Get Happy” from “Summer Stock”, “Good Morning” from “Babes in Arms”, and the title song from “For Me and My Gal.”
This was a wonderfully nostalgic show, but might have given a little more emphasis on the Halle and movie instrumental pieces, rather than vocals that accompanied virtually every piece.
That said, it was a tribute to Gene Kelly, so it was perhaps expected.
