A 15-year-old boy from Lees has thanked local businesses for supporting his bid to gain two silver medals in the WMO (World Muay Thai Organisation) European Muay Thai Championships in Spain.
Jacob Cartwright, a student at the Blue Coat school, stepped up from junior to under 16 youth division to compete in two weight categories (67kg and 71kg) in Seville.
In a thank you note to businesses he said: ”I loved every minute of the championships.
"It has been a series of tough fights and a massive learning experience.
“The feeling of walking out wrapped in my country’s flag hearing the crowd cheer was honestly unforgettable.
"A massive thank you to everyone to everyone who made it possible.”
Jacob’s coach Bradley Tunnacliffe, from Max Force Muay Thai, added: "Jacob did us proud, more importantly he did himself proud, his 2nd bout - what a performance.”
Jacob added: "Thanks Bradley and Shaunna - for all the training, support, and for believing in me from day one.
"My sponsors - Armstrongs Office Furniture, The Clarence Greenfield, William Monk Ltd (Lance), Dronsfields 'Independent Mercedes Specialists' and InXpress - thank you for backing me and helping me get here.
"Big thanks to Adam Nolan and a family friend who wishes to stay anonymous for their generous donations.
"To the companies who donated raffle prizes for my fundraiser night - Character Toys, Oldham Athletic, Addisons, Sweet and Smooth, The Face and Body Shop, Cheveux Hair and Makeup and Jan Drummond & Auld Herdy - your support means so much.
“And finally, every single person who came to my events, bought tickets, shared posts, or sent messages - you all played a part in helping me get here.
“Last but not least, none of this would have been possible without my parents Jill and Chris - thank you for everything.”
