Medals galore for Max Force contingent in Spain

Five students from the Max Force Muay Thai gym went to Seville in Spain to compete in the Muay Thai European Championships. 

The five students were Jacob Cartwright of Lees, Connor MacLeannan of Lees, Theo Shaw of Shaw, Darcey-Leigh Lockett-Moskwin of Greenacres and Tyler Taylor of Sholver.

Gym co-owner Bradley Tunnacliffe said: "As a whole the team have done themselves super proud and me and Shaunna couldn't be any prouder of the students.

"The way they conducted themselves over there was excellent.

"They handled themselves with class and respect throughout the whole tournament.

"Eventually everyone was put in to a category with the majority of our students having to give away age and weight just to be put in categories 

"All five of our students are a credit to the club and they never cease to amaze us every time."

Jacob came away with silver in the 14-16 yrs 67kg and 71kg category after fighting in two weight divisions back to back days and head contact.

Tyler came away with silver in the 10-12 yrs 42-44kg category.

Darcey came away with silver in the 8-10 yrs-33kg category.

Theo came away with silver in the 12-14 yrs 46-48kg category. 

Connor came away with gold in the 12-14 yrs -51kg category, beating Ireland in the final.

As a club the team came away with one gold and five silver medals. 

Bradley added: "We are immensely proud of all the students and even more so for the first-timers - one of them came away with gold on their first attempt which is a huge achievement. 

"Our little club in New Hey producing European champions.

"All five of the students were training 3-5 times a week for this and were all in tough bouts in the final, but the hard work paid off and they all deserved their podium finishes."
