The cast of Oldham Coliseum Theatre's forthcoming production of A Taste of Honey made a trip to the iconic Salford Lads’ and Girls’ Club to take in some research as part of the rehearsal process.

They were treated to a tour from the site's Project Manager Leslie Holmes, where they also heard about the history of the club and Salford around the 1950s and ‘60s.

A Taste of Honey was written 60 years ago by Shelagh Delaney when she was still a teenager.

It became an instant success, opening at Theatre Royal Stratford East and transferring to the West End the following year.

Salford Lads’ Club was the location for the dock scenes of the film adaptation of A Taste of Honey, starring Rita Tushingham and Dora Bryan, which was released in 1961.
