Local vet triumphs in 2021 Petplan Veterinary Awards

Date published: 12 May 2021

Local vet Potts Redmond, of Gilmore Pet Surgery, has won the Vet of the Year prize at the 2021 Petplan Veterinary Awards.

The winners were announced during a virtual ceremony held on Petplan’s Facebook page.

The exciting, and unique, event was hosted by much loved comedian and actor Marcus Brigstocke.

Now in their 22nd year, the awards celebrated the nation’s most outstanding vets, vet nurses, practices, practice managers and support staff.

On receiving her award, Potts said: “This has been the strangest of years where I find myself snatched from the locum trail into the jaws of responsibility as a Clinical Director thanks to IR35 and Covid.

"We are working in ways I would never have imagined existed, and so many of us have worked ridiculous hours this year in the face of a recruitment crisis/Covid.

“Then I hear the stupefying news I'm in the final three for Petplan's Vet of the Year.

"The surreal icing on the cake was to hear my name read out as the winner in a moment that was utterly overwhelming, and remains so.

"Never before have pyjamas, out of date oven pizza and a small glass of red wine, seemed so inadequate and inappropriate.

"I genuinely didn't expect to win.

"Then colleagues and clients past and present commented with such lovely kind words.

"I'm very grateful to those that took the time to nominate me.

"It's an absolute honour to be deemed worthy of Vet of the Year and will remain a career highlight!”

Isabella von Mesterhazy, head of marketing at Petplan, added: “This year we received more than 31,000 nominations from pet owners and the veterinary community and it was great to have so many people come together online to see the winners announced.

“It is particularly special to be able to say thank you to the veterinary profession who have continued to work tirelessly throughout these past 18 months during Covid-19 to look after the nation's pets.

"I would like to congratulate all of the winners on their brilliant achievement.”
