WeDo's muddy marvels raise £3,000 for charity

Date published: 28 July 2023

A nine-strong team from the Oldham-based WeDo Business Services group have raised thousands of pounds for the Mustard Tree charity after completing the Tough Mudder course at Manchester’s Heaton Park.

The fearless fundraisers crawled, climbed, slipped and slid their way through the gruelling course to boost the charity’s coffers.

They raised £2,085 in sponsorship and WeDo is adding a company contribution of £1,000, to make a total of £3,085.

For almost 30 years, Mustard Tree has worked to combat poverty and reduce homelessness across the Greater Manchester.

It provides training, food, clothing, furniture and other essentials, as well as crisis support, courses and classes to help people improve their life skills and find work opportunities.

Founded in 1994, Mustard Tree is assisting more people than ever.

Each month, over 5,000 people access its food clubs to get their weekly shopping, over 300 receive training and over 500 register for the first time to access help.

WeDo Business Services has helped Mustard Tree and a host of other charities in various ways over the years, through volunteering as well as donating goods and cash and fundraising.

Mick Greaves, who organised the Tough Mudder mission, said: “Our Tough Mudder team was drawn from multiple areas of the business and they did a great job in completing the Tough Mudder course to raise a significant amount of money for this fantastic cause.

"We’re extremely proud of them all.”

Harry Dwan, people and communities manager at Mustard Tree, said: “The WeDo team, through their volunteering, donations and fundraising, have helped many of our clients to overcome obstacles in their lives, and we are extremely grateful for the efforts of those who overcame the obstacles presented by Tough Mudder to raise further much-needed funds for our organisation.

“Our need to raise money is on a scale we have not seen before and it’s growing, so this contribution from WeDo is greatly appreciated and will make a real difference to the lives of people across Greater Manchester.”

WeDo, which has its headquarters in Oldham and additional offices at MediaCityUK in Salford, Sheffield, Bromsgrove, Swindon and Colchester, provides a range of services to small and medium-sized companies, including invoice and trade finance, start-up funding, accountancy, HR, back-office, IT and digital and payroll support.
