Santa and his Assistant
Scouthead and Austerlands Community Group held their annual Christmas tree lights switch-on event at the Three Crowns in Scouthead.
This year's event was very special as the Mayor of Austerlands, Sue Smith, was joined by Santa Claus to switch on the lights.
Santa arrived earlier in the afternoon accompanied by Mother Christmas and her while horse, Charlie.
After greeting local families outside, Santa went to his grotto and met over 80 local children and their families, listened to their Christmas wishes and gave them small gifts.
There were also children’s crafts including make a reindeer decoration and a name the teddy competition.
Mulled wine and mince pies were served as the tree was lit.
The event was free to attend and donations to Oldham Foodbank were invited from those who were able to contribute.
Community Group Chair Robert Cragg said: “This is the first time we have managed to secure Santa for our Christmas event and we were delighted that so many local children were able to meet him and at the same time collect donations for those who might be struggling at this time of year.
"Thanks to everyone who helped make the event a great success.”
