First Choice Homes Oldham has provided £4,000 to Mahdlo Youth Zone in Oldham for a six month pilot scheme supporting younger residents living in FCHO properties.

The project gives children and young adults aged between eight and 19 free membership to Mahdlo Youth Zone on Egerton Street.

Young people taking part will be able to access clubs and activities including sport, music, dance and drama, alongside free meals during sessions.

The initiative aims to remove financial barriers that can prevent young people from taking part in positive activities, particularly during ongoing cost of living pressures.

Ben Thomas, head of community services at First Choice Homes Oldham, said: “Often our young residents do not have access to positive opportunities that support their personal development, confidence and aspirations.

“We believe this partnership with Mahdlo recognises this and demonstrates our shared commitment to improving young people’s lives here in Oldham.

“By working together, we can help ensure that more young people benefit from engaging, supportive, and enriching experiences that will ultimately strengthen their futures and our local communities.”

Lucy Lees, chief executive of Mahdlo Youth Zone, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with FCHO on this important initiative. Every young person deserves access to safe, inspiring spaces where they can build confidence, learn new skills and form positive relationships.

“This project will help ensure more children in Oldham can benefit from the opportunities, support and experiences Mahdlo provides, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact it has over the coming months.”

The pilot scheme began in April and will run until October before being reviewed.
