After last week’s review went down so well, I had the perfect excuse to grab a coffee and check out one of Oldham’s newer independents, The Green Room, inside the new Spindles Shopping Centre. Run by the lovely Ross, who has done a stellar job.

It doesn’t quite feel right to call it a café. I grabbed a seat overlooking the large glass frontage and staircase, where groups of college students were enjoying a bite, a chat and some downtime.

The Green Room offers light bites alongside the familiar favourites you’d expect, with a contemporary feel. The chocolate flapjack was clearly created by someone who understands that style and substance go hand in hand, and it certainly exceeded expectations.

Whether you’re grabbing a brew, enjoying some soup or catching up with friends, the vibe is spot on.

Oldham town centre is moving forward, with a healthy mix of independents and national names, the opening of Tommyfield Park and workmen still hard at it across the town. There’s a real sense of carrying on regardless, with quiet confidence that things are heading in the right direction.

Quite simply, The Green Room is a great place to eat, with a modern vibe and, most importantly, a genuine feel for Oldham and its people.

Well done, Ross. Oldham needs more places like this.
